Matrix activation configures supported factory hardware to use its adaptive light distribution. It is a software service, not a headlight conversion. The process begins by confirming that the required equipment is already installed in the vehicle.

What Matrix activation changes

When a compatible Audi has the required Matrix headlight assemblies, camera, control modules, and software generation, activation can enable the system to control portions of the high beam independently. Detected vehicles can remain within a reduced-light area while more of the surrounding road stays illuminated.

The exact behavior varies with the headlight generation. The process does not add brighter bulbs, increase the rated output beyond the system's design, or turn a standard LED assembly into Matrix hardware.

Step 1: Confirm the vehicle and headlight assembly

Model and year are the starting point, not the final compatibility decision. Audi may fit different headlight assemblies to vehicles that share the same model name. German Orbit reviews the VIN and relevant equipment information to determine which activation set applies.

Vehicles that lack the required factory hardware are not candidates for a software-only Matrix activation. If the installed hardware is unclear, we request the specific information needed before scheduling.

Step 2: Prepare the connection

The session is completed remotely while the vehicle is parked. You need a Windows or Mac computer, stable internet, and the correct ENET or DoIP connection for the vehicle. German Orbit confirms the connection type after reviewing the order, so customers do not have to guess which cable or dongle is required.

  • Park the vehicle in a safe location with adequate battery support.
  • Keep the computer connected to reliable internet and power.
  • Follow the connection instructions sent before the appointment.
  • Do not drive or operate the vehicle during the configuration session.

Step 3: Configure and verify

During the guided session, the relevant control-module configuration is reviewed and the appropriate supported changes are applied. The requested functions are then checked with the customer before the session is closed. The configuration is recorded so the vehicle can be returned to its prior software state if required.

What activation does not include

Matrix activation does not repair damaged headlights, correct headlight aim, replace missing hardware, or resolve unrelated vehicle faults. Other lighting functions such as Blue Laser, Lane Light, Maneuver Light, and Maneuver Assist have their own hardware and platform requirements. They are not automatically included with Matrix unless shown in the selected configuration.

How long does the session take?

Most prepared sessions can be completed in a short appointment, but timing depends on the vehicle, connection quality, and software state. Preparation instructions are sent after checkout, and scheduling begins once the order information has been reviewed.
