How to Find Out if Your Audi Has Matrix LED
Before anything else: Matrix LED must be physically installed in your car. Activation cannot add hardware that isn't there. Three ways to confirm:
- Window sticker / Monroney: Search for "Matrix LED," "HD Matrix LED," or "LED Headlights with dynamic high-beam assist" in the options list
- Option codes: Your Audi has a production label (usually in the trunk lid or spare tire well) listing PR codes. Matrix-related codes include: 8IT (LED headlights), 8G4 (Matrix LED), 8G8 (HD Matrix LED)
- Visual inspection: Matrix headlights have a distinctive multi-faceted lens appearance with individual LED "pixels" visible. Standard LED headlights look different — usually a single lens unit without the segmented pattern.
Model-by-Model Availability (2017–2025)
Audi A3 (8Y, 2021–present)

Audi A4 (B9/B9.5, 2017–2024)
Matrix LED available from 2017 on higher trims. Pre-facelift (2017–2019): some builds pre-date SFD2 full lockout. B9.5 facelift (2020–2024): Matrix on Premium Plus and Prestige. Full SFD2 activation required on all post-2019 builds.
Audi A5 (B9/B9.5 Sportback, Cabriolet, Coupé, 2017–2024)
Shares platform and headlight options with A4 B9. Matrix available on same trims. Same activation requirements.
Audi A6 (C8, 2019–present)
HD Matrix LED standard on Premium Plus and Prestige in US market. Lower trims have LED but not HD Matrix. All C8 builds use SFD2 — ODIS required.
Audi A7 (C8, 2019–present)
HD Matrix standard on all US A7 trims (standard equipment at this price point). Activation required for ECE mode.
Audi A8 (D5, 2018–present)
HD Matrix or Laser Light standard across the range. Top trims offer Laser Light. All require ODIS activation.
Audi Q3 (F3, 2019–present)
Matrix LED available on upper Q3 trims. Entry Q3 has halogen or basic LED. Activation required if equipped.
Audi Q5 (FY, 2017–present) and Q5 Sportback

Audi Q7 (4M, 2016–present)
HD Matrix LED available from 2016 on upper trims. The Q7 was among the earliest SFD2 adopters — even 2016–2017 builds may require ODIS. Standard on S line trim and above in most configurations.
Audi Q8 (4M, 2019–present) and SQ8 / RS Q8
HD Matrix LED standard across most Q8 configurations in the US. RS Q8 includes standard. All require activation.
Audi Q6 e-tron (2024+)
Matrix LED standard. New PPE platform requires DoIP-capable interface for activation. German Orbit supports DoIP vehicles.
Audi Q8 e-tron (2023+)
HD Matrix standard. Refresh model on updated MLB Evo platform. 2024 builds may require DoIP interface.
Audi e-tron / e-tron Sportback (GE, 2019–2023)
Matrix LED available on upper trims. All builds SFD2 protected. Older MLB Evo architecture (standard OBD-II interface compatible).
RS Models (RS3, RS6, RS7, RS Q8)
All RS-spec models include HD Matrix as standard equipment. RS6 and RS7 Avant are particularly popular activation targets given their performance-GT character that benefits from excellent night vision.
TT (8S, to 2023)
Matrix LED available on TTS and TT RS. Low volume but activatable. Final TT built 2023 — no successor.
