Lamborghini Urus Headlight Tech: Matrix LED on the Super-SUV

The Urus wears Lamborghini badges but runs Audi's headlight tech. Here's the full story.

The Urus and the MLB Evo Connection

The Lamborghini Urus is built on the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform — the same architecture as the Audi Q8. The Urus shares more with the Q8 than most owners realize: similar suspension geometry, related infotainment systems, and critically for this guide, closely related headlight control architecture.

Lamborghini brands its headlight technology as "full LED adaptive" rather than using the "Matrix" name, but the underlying technology is the same segmented LED system used in the Audi Q8's HD Matrix setup.

The current Urus (and updated Urus S, 2023+) uses:

Can the Urus Matrix Function Be Activated Remotely?

The Urus uses ODIS with Lamborghini-specific PPN credentials — separate from Audi credentials just as Bentley and Porsche require their own authorization. The activation process is architecturally similar to Audi Q8 activation but requires Lamborghini authorization.

For US-spec Urus delivery, the headlight system typically operates in NAR mode with the same restrictions as comparable Audi vehicles. Activation to ECE mode follows the same SFD2-authenticated ODIS process.

Practically, the remote service market for Lamborghini-credentialed ODIS is extremely limited. Most Urus owners will work with a Lamborghini dealer or a specialist shop with full VW Group authorization suite including Lamborghini PPN.

Urus Lighting in Different Drive Modes

A unique aspect of the Urus vs. Audi: the Anima system affects lighting behavior differently than Audi Drive Select. In certain Anima modes, the beam pattern and adaptive function behavior adjusts to match the expected driving scenario:

This Anima integration is Lamborghini-specific and doesn't have a direct Audi equivalent. The underlying hardware is the same; the software orchestration is different.

A Note on Costs

Lamborghini dealer service rates are among the highest in the industry. An adaptive headlight activation session or any ODIS-based coding at a Lamborghini dealer could easily run $1,000–$2,500 depending on the dealer and region. For Urus owners, finding a specialist with Lamborghini PPN access at a lower service rate is worth investigating.
