The Bentayga and VW Group Platform Sharing

The Bentley Bentayga shares its MLB Evo platform underpinnings with the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne. This isn't widely known outside enthusiast circles, but it has a significant implication: the headlight control architecture is closely related to the systems in those Audi and Porsche vehicles.

Bentley's version of the adaptive LED headlight system is branded as "Matrix LED" on European-spec Bentaygas, and like its Audi equivalent, it can face regional activation requirements in North American deliveries.

The current-generation Bentayga (2020+ facelift and 2021+ new generation) offers:

Activation on Bentayga

Bentley uses ODIS with Bentley-branded PPN credentials for dealer service. The Matrix activation process on a Bentayga is structurally identical to Audi Q7 activation but requires Bentley-specific authorization credentials in ODIS.

For Bentayga owners, this means the remote activation market is smaller — fewer remote service providers have Bentley PPN access. Most Bentayga owners will need to use an authorized Bentley dealer or a specialist with confirmed Bentley ODIS credentials.

What Bentayga Owners Can Access

Beyond Matrix activation, the Bentayga offers driver-configurable lighting behavior through the Bentley infotainment system (based on Audi MMI architecture). Many comfort and personalization settings are accessible through the native interface without coding tools.

For deeper modifications, a Bentley-authorized ODIS technician can access the same range of coding options available on Audi Q7 — ambient lighting, comfort functions, driving dynamics parameters — with Bentley-specific branding applied to the menus.

Cost Considerations

Bentley service rates are substantially higher than Audi dealer rates. A Matrix activation session at a Bentley dealer can run $800–$1,500. Remote services with Bentley authorization capability (rare) charge $300–$500. The technology is the same as an Audi Q7 activation; you're paying for the brand authorization overhead.
