Two Premium EVs, Same Group, Different Approaches

The Audi Q8 e-tron (formerly e-tron) and the new Porsche Macan EV (2024+) are both Volkswagen Group electric SUVs aimed at similar customers. But while the original e-tron shared MLB Evo with the Q7, the new Q8 e-tron (2024+) and Macan EV run on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture — a shared platform specifically designed for the premium EV segment.

PPE Platform and Headlight Architecture

PPE (Premium Platform Electric) is co-developed by Audi and Porsche for longitudinal-drive premium EVs. It debuts on the Q6 e-tron and Macan EV simultaneously. Key headlight characteristics:

Audi Q8 e-tron (GE, 2023+) Headlights

The revised Q8 e-tron uses a new generation of HD Matrix headlights with:

In North America, the adaptive Matrix function requires the same ODIS activation as other Audi models — the SFD2 architecture carries over to the new generation.

Porsche Macan EV (2024+) Headlights

The Macan EV introduces Porsche's new "4-point LED" design language with:

Activation Considerations for PPE Vehicles

The PPE platform requires a DoIP-capable pass-through interface for ODIS sessions — standard OBD-II interfaces that don't support the DoIP protocol cannot communicate with these vehicles' control modules for coding operations. Ensure your activation service has confirmed DoIP interface capability before scheduling a session on a 2024+ Q6/Q8 e-tron or Macan EV.

German Orbit confirms interface compatibility as part of the pre-session check. If your vehicle requires DoIP, we'll confirm capability before scheduling.
