Why Hidden Features Vary by Model Year
Audi builds one physical platform but releases software in waves — early production runs get base software with many features dormant, while later updates and higher-trim configurations enable more. The key factors that determine what's unlockable on your specific car are:
- Build date / software generation: Software released mid-cycle updates sometimes add new features retroactively activatable via coding
- Installed hardware: You can only unlock features supported by your car's physical components (e.g., Matrix segments must be physically present)
- Market/region code: NAR vs. ECE mode gating controls dozens of features beyond just headlights
- Option codes: Factory-ordered options bind certain modules; some can be retrofitted, some cannot
Audi A3 8Y (2021+) — MQB Evo
The 8Y generation A3 runs MQB Evo with full SFD2. Unlockable features with ODIS/VCDS (noting SFD2 requirements where applicable):
